Alys Anne Williams Wiedeke, 83, of Wadmalaw Island, beloved wife of Lynn Patrick Wiedeke of 42 years, mother of Marianne Lee Patterson (Jim Cole) of Johns Island and Michael Norton Patterson of New York City, passed away on December 21, 2025. She also leaves behind several cousins.

Alys Anne was born September 17, 1943 in Asheville, NC, the only child of and preceded in death by her parents, Norton Lauriet Williams, M.D. and Marie Ward Williams. After her birth, they moved to New York City while Dr. Williams finished his residency. In 1955, they then moved to downtown Charleston. She graduated from Ashley Hall and attended the College of Charleston.

Alys Anne managed her father's practice in psychiatry and psychoanalysis on Calhoun Street for 20 years until Dr. Williams retired. At the age of 52, she started a second career in the Athletics Department at the College of Charleston until her retirement. She was loved by her co-workers who enjoyed her positive attitude, friendliness and dedication to all things CofC and to the student athletes. While living on Sullivan's Island, Alys Anne was Chairman of the Tree Commission before being elected to the Sullivan's Island Town Council for 4 years. She treated everyone the same regardless of race, creed or social status.

Alys Anne loved music with opera being her favorite. She also enjoyed singing and periodically sang at retirement homes knowing that old songs are remembered and loved. Alys Anne was a tree-hugger whose dream of seeing Redwood trees was realized on a trip to California. Her last 5 years surrounded by trees on Wadmalaw Island meant the world to her but her big, open and loving heart finally gave out.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to all the health professionals and caretakers who helped care for Alys Anne in her final years. A private family service will be held at a later date. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers during this time.
