Alvin Edmund Shull, 89, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Ruth Thomas McIntyre Shull passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2013. His Funeral Service will be held Monday, November 11, 2013 in the Northbridge Baptist Church, 1160 Sam Rittenberg Blvd. at 10:00 am. Interment will be in Southland Memorial Gardens, 700 West Dunbar Road, West Columbia, SC at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends Sunday, November 10, 2013 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm in J. HENRY STUHR, INC. WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL.
Alvin was born September 30, 1924 in Columbia, South Carolina, son of the late Edmund Parker Shull and Mayfield Spires Shull. A veteran of the US Navy, having served during World War II, he participated in the April 21, 2012 Honor Flight to Washington, DC. A faithful member of Northbridge Baptist Church, he served as a Deacon, and was a member of the Senior Choir. He retired from NCR as a Field Engineer. In his free time, Alvin loved fishing, visiting the mountains, and traveling. But, most of all, he loved watching his grandchildren playing sports.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Ruth Thomas McIntyre Shull; his son, Randall (Mitzi) Shull of Charleston, SC; his three daughters, Linda (Larry) Baucom of Virginia Beach, VA, Debra (Mark) Keeney of Anderson, SC, and Angela (Johnny) Swain of Charleston, SC; six step-children; his grandchildren, Brian, Kevin, Diane, Allison, Jeff, Jennifer, Sarah, Amy, Trevor, and Kristin; several step-grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and his brother, LaVern (Dixie) Shull of Columbia, SC. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Florine Younginer Shull, and his son, Jerry Shull.
