Alvin Eugene Addington

August 24, 1934 — May 26, 2010

Al Addington passed away May 26, 2010, at his home in Goose Creek his loving wife of 51 years was at his side. The son of Samuel and Elizabeth Addington who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Johnny L. and Robert E. Addington. He was born in Slater, South Carolina where he resided until joining the Navy in 1952. He served his country for 24 years retiring in 1974. While in the Navy he traveled to many countries and served aboard the USS Trout, USS Thornback, USS Amberjack, USS Alamogordo, USS Inflict, SSC NTC Great Lakes, and the USS Fearless. His favorite pastime was fishing which he did every chance he got. He was happiest on the river with a fishing pole in his hand. For many years he was the voice of the Goose Creek Gators football team announcing all home games. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan no matter their standings. He was also a member of the Fleet Reserve #269, The American Legion, and the Sub Vets. He is survived by his wife Barbara and their four children, Michael Addington of GA, Samuel Addington of Goose Creek, Lynne (Chewey) Baker of MD and Larry (Mindy) Addington of NY; seven grandchildren: Kourtney Baker, Ashton Addington, Joshua Addington, Tyler Baker, Robby Addington, Shelby Addington, Kathrine Addington; a sister Nancy (Dennis) Epps of SC and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service with military honors will be held Saturday, May 29, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. Please join the family at the All Saints Chapel at the Naval Weapons Station, Goose Creek, SC, to celebrate the life of our husband, father, grandfather and friend.
