Alva Virginia York

Alva Virginia York, 91, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Robert R. York entered into eternal rest Thursday, August 23, 2012. Her Funeral Service will be held Sunday, August 26, 2012 in First Christian Church Disciples Of Christ at 3:00 pm. Entombment, Live Oak Memorial Gardens . The family will receive friends at the church Sunday one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL.

Alva was born May 2, 1921 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of William Jacob Hilton and Daisy Grainger Hilton. She was a graduate of Murray Vocational School. Mrs. York was a life member of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ. She served as the church secretary for 15 years and was a Deacon Emeritus of the church.

She is survived by her two daughters, Susan York of Charleston, SC, Glenda Ann York and her husband (Jim) of Watkinsville, GA, son-in-law, Henry Dorkewitz and his wife (Kathy) of Charleston, SC, special family member, Terrie McCreight of Charleston, SC, 5 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Lee Dorkewitz.
