Alva Jackson Rivers, age 90, wife of Joseph L. Rivers, passed peacefully at her home, Rock Creek Manor, Jasper GA on Saturday, September 23, 2017. Her funeral service will be held Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the graveside in Live Oak Memorial Gardens at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL.

She is survived by her son Dr Jimmie Dale Cannon, Jr. and his beloved Angela; two grandchildren, Brook Ellen Cannon McCloud of Richmond VA and Jordan Chandler Cannon of Oak Terrace, IL; four step sons, Joseph L. Rivers, Jr., William M. Rivers, Gregorie S. Rivers,and Marc L. Rivers; niece, Candy Strobel; and her longtime dear friends Jean Nelson and Sam Sheleby.

She is fondly remembered as "the plantation lady" for her years of plantation research as well as a longtime MUSC volunteer. Her loves were her birthplace "The Holy City", fresh shrimp from Wando seafood, a Magwood oyster, a day trip to ALL of the island vegetable stands, and anything cooked by Chef Vedrinski. I am sure she is with her Father in heaven now having one last Charleston blue crab with a cold beer! Rest in Peace.
