Alton Joseph Tolar

Alton Joseph Tolar, 83, of Goose Creek, SC, beloved husband of Geraldine Tolar, died Monday, April 23, 2018. His Funeral Service will be held Friday, April 27, 2018 in the Hillcrest Baptist Church, 3595 Ashley Phosphate Road at 12:00 pm. Interment to follow at Plantation Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road.

Alton was born January 2, 1935 in Fayetteville, NC, son of the late Addison Gray Tolar, Jr. and Gladys Atkins Tolar. He was an Army veteran of the 82nd Airborne and retired from Citigroup after 41 years in the finance business. After his retirement he achieved his life's passion and earned his CDL to drive his own 18 wheeler for 18 years. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. Alton was a member of Hillcrest Baptist of North Charleston.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Geraldine Tolar; son, Gregory Tolar (Anona); daughters: Debra Tolar, Donna Melogy (Kevin), Pamela Vesely (Jamie); grandchildren: Ian Tolar, Ryan Melogy, Matt Melogy, Emily Melogy, Jordan "JT" Vesely, Joshua Howell and Sarah Morris; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and beloved sister-in-love, Delores "Dee" Novy. He was preceded in death by nine siblings.
