Alston Calhoun Badger, Jr., 51, of Mount Pleasant, SC, husband of Mary "Mimi" Riley Badger and father of Alston Calhoun Badger III and Riley McKain Badger, passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2013. Alston was born in Columbia, SC, on November 30, 1961. He was the son of the late Alston Calhoun Badger, Sr. and Elise Ready Badger of Charleston, SC. He was the seventh child and only son, and was adored by his six older sisters.
Alston was a devoted father, a caring husband, and a beloved brother and uncle. He had a tremendous heart and a generous spirit. Alston was a graduate of Porter Gaud School and The College of Charleston. He received his law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1988. He began his career in the Solicitor's Office in Charleston as an Assistant Solicitor.
From 1993 to 1998, he served as Deputy Solicitor in Berkeley County. In 1998, Alston entered private practice and served as a municipal judge in Mount Pleasant. He served in this capacity until 2001 when he was appointed to the United States Attorney's Office as an Assistant US Attorney where he remained until 2013. An avid sportsman, Alston was a member of Porter Gaud's and College of Charleston's soccer teams, and remained passionate about the sport throughout his life, coaching both of his sons' soccer teams. He also enjoyed all water sports, particularly kayaking and fishing.
He is survived and much loved by his wife and sons of Mount Pleasant, SC; sisters Margaret "Rett" Badger Fitts (Ronnie) of Mount Pleasant, SC, Jennie "Deedie" Badger Daniel (Bill) of Dillon, SC, Elizabeth "Betsy" Badger Langdon (Mark) of Blythewood, SC, Mary Badger Cartwright (Mark) of Johns Island, SC, Amy Badger of Edisto Island, SC, and Sally Badger Jarvis (Tim) of Hollywood, SC; sisters-in-law Sara Downing (Bobby) and Harriet Watkins (Rick); nieces and nephews Christian Wolfe, Haywood Wolfe, Shipp Daniel, Anna McLaurin, Emily Eberlin, Catie Langdon, Alston Knaus, Ben Langdon, Tracy Badger, Maggie Fitts, Mary Downing, Riley Downing, Sara Laffler, and Taylor Watkins, and a multitude of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew Reese Fitts.

The family will receive friends Thursday, January 31, 2013, at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, from 5 until 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held in St. Andrew's Church - Mt. Pleasant, 440 Whilden Street, Friday, February 1, 2013 at 11 a.m.
