Alpo Olavi Niskanen, 77, of Huger, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, January 26, 2025. He was born on November 9, 1947, in New York, New York, and was the cherished son of the late David Ilmari Niskanen and the late Martta Sakkinen Niskanen.
Alpo dedicated much of his life to his profession as a truck driver, through which he became known not only for his hard work but also for his unwavering commitment to his family. He found joy in spending time with loved ones, fishing, and journaling. Alpo was also a proud veteran who served in the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic.
He is survived by five beloved children: Debbie E. Niskanen of Bronx, NY; Lisa N. Nunez (Robert) of Hiram, GA; David A. Niskanen (Ramonita) of Yonkers, NY; Lucas A. Niskanen (Jenny) of Massapequa, Long Island, NY; and Noemi M. Hord (Kyle) of Acworth, GA. Alpo's legacy continues to thrive through his 13 grandchildren: David Jr., Frank (Fallan), Travis, Madeline, Charlize, Knox, Dylan, James, Dawson, Charlotte, Decker, Anton, and Mikayla. He was also the proud grandfather of three great-grandchildren: Sienna, Liliana, and Isabella.
Alpo was preceded in death by the love of his life for 56 years, Nuni, who held a special place in his heart. Their shared memories have left a profound and lasting impact on all who knew them. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Aimo Niskanen.
A memorial service to honor Alpo's life will be held in New York with military honors on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at 11:00 am at the American Legion Post 8, 112 North Avenue, New Rochelle, NY. 10801, with arrangements entrusted to J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.
As family and friends gather to remember Alpo Niskanen, they will undoubtedly reflect on his contributions to their lives, honoring his memory with thoughts and prayers. His spirit and dedication to family will continue to inspire all who carry his memory forward.
