Alma Jennings Kiser, 85, of Isle of Palms, South Carolina passed away peacefully at her home in the early morning hours of May 19, 2024. Alma grew up in Rock Hill, South Carolina and made the Isle of Palms her home in 1962.
Lovingly referred to as “Granny” by her family, she attended Winthrop Training School from kindergarten through her graduation from high school. After a brief stint as a flight attendant, Alma attended York General Hospital School of Nursing where she earned a degree as a Registered Nurse. During her career in nursing, she worked in the oncology department at Roper hospital where she loved and cared for her patients with great vigor.
Upon her retirement from nursing, Alma turned her passion to her faith and her church, First United Methodist Church on the Isle of Palms. In addition to her weekly attendance (not in a particular pew), she volunteered in the church office and was an active member of the Keenagers and Crafty Ladies. Granny also greatly enjoyed her visits from family and friends where she would routinely beat them in intellectual board games.
While there was never any doubt in what Alma was thinking at any given time, she spread her love through the community by caring for friends and family of all ages. This was evidenced by the multitude of loving visitors who came to see her during the last few weeks of her life.
Alma loved her family and was very proud of her children and grandchildren. Her son, Ron, followed in her footsteps and became a nurse. Her daughter, Jean Marie, chose to serve her community through the practice of law and is now a Summary Court Judge.
She is predeceased by her husband and soulmate, Buray Ronald Kiser, sisters Rebecca Jennings Bryant, Carol J. Taylor, Marie J. Davison and Mabel J. Varnadore. She is survived by her sister Joanne Miller and her children, Buray Ronald Kiser, Jr., Jean Kiser McCormick (Harvey), her grandchildren, Harvey Wilson McCormick, IV, J. Cooper McCormick, Edward R. McCormick, Buray Tyler Kiser, Katherine G. Kiser, Mary Charlotte Kiser and Kellen Kiser, her brother-in-law, Gary B. Kiser (Jean) in addition to many greatly loved cousins, nieces and nephews.
