Alline Hundley Williams

Alline Hundley Williams, 94, of Hanahan entered into eternal rest March 24, 2021. Alline was born August 14, 1926 in Enterprise, Alabama, the daughter of Zollie Coffer Hundley and Mary Vaughan (Beall) Hundley. She was the second of four children.

The family will receive friends Sunday, March 28, 2021 at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road, North Charleston from 6:00-8:00 pm. The funeral Mass will be held at Divine Redeemer Catholic Church, Monday, March 29, 2021 at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Fort Johnson Road, James Island, SC.

Alline graduated from high school at 16 in 1943 and later married Sergeant George (Bill) Williams originally from Lowell, Massachusetts, August 5, 1945. It was a World War II romance. He was stationed at Ft. Rucker before he was shipped overseas to the European front in 1943. As an army wife, Alline moved 33 times in the first 25 years of marriage. She worked tirelessly raising five children with their menagerie of pets - dogs, cats, birds, fish, rabbits, Easter chicks and ducks.

During her lifetime, Alline traveled to many states and lived in France from 1953 until 1957. She traveled to Europe on three separate occasions, along with a visit to the Middle East in 1974. From 1945 until 1957, longer duty stations included the following places: the Panama Canal Zone; Ft. Lewis, Washington; Ft. Benning, Georgia; Ft. Jackson, SC; Royan, Rochefort, and Fouras France; finally, Charleston, SC in August, 1957.

Alline first worked at Ft. Rucker as a secretary during World War II, and again, after marriage when Bill was in the Korean War. Years later, Alline worked part-time with her husband when they started Charleston Auto Processors with the Arnolds. The company helped ship cars overseas for the military and picked the cars up from the port. She supported her husband when he became a public works commissioner and the mayor of Hanahan. Later, Alline sold real estate with Allen Carter, Atchinson Realty, O'Shaughnessy, Century 21, and Coldwell Banker. In her seventies, Alline enjoyed working for different antique stores --- The Grey Goose, The Yellow Canary, and the Antiques Market. She was always enthusiastic about yard sales and loved going to auctions with her good friend Sandy.

Alline was a member of Divine Redeemer Catholic Church since 1957. She was very active in the Women's Club where she made lifelong friends. Alline and Clara were like sisters for over fifty years. In 1972, she was chosen SC Catholic Woman of the Year. She also enjoyed working at Echo House with Sister Colleen in North Charleston.

Alline was very creative, and with her dear friend, Louise, they planned many dresses for her four daughters and crafts for fundraisers. She loved to sew, cross stitch, play bridge, read, go to yard sales, work jigsaw and cross word puzzles. Into her late eighties, Alline could still quote poetry, and because of her Methodist upbringing, she remembered many Bible verses. Alline enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy for many years. She always volunteered to help in Divine Redeemer Church and school, and any organizations her children were involved in, from Cub Scout leader to CYO Youth Group. Alline loved people, especially little children and babies. She nurtured and cared deeply for her family, her friends, and all her children's friends --- whoever entered her front door.

Alline was a life-long learner. In 1943, she was accepted to the University of Alabama but, with the war and little funds, she was unable to attend. She valued education and she encouraged her children to pursue a college degree. Alline was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passionate about her faith, family, friends, community, and country. Wonderful, heartfelt, funny memories are etched in all the hearts of her family for eternity. She will be profoundly missed.

Alline was preceded in death by her husband Major George (Bill) Charles Williams (USA Ret.) in 1994 after almost 50 years of marriage; and later her three siblings, Hazel Carmichael and Marilou Howard both of Enterprise, Alabama, and her brother Dr. Richard Zol Hundley of Houston, Texas.
Alline is survived by her five children: George (Skip) Charles Williams, Jr. and his wife Sharon of North Myrtle Beach, Martha Kathryn (Kathy) Wright and her husband Tom of Hanahan, Theresa (Terry) Louise Goss and her husband Al of Mt. Pleasant, Cynthia (Cindy) Ann Walling and her husband James of Mt. Pleasant, Pamela (Pam) Jane Smith and her husband Dennis of Middleburg, Florida; 11 grandchildren: Kristen Taffar (Tony), Michelle Donnald (Eddie), Rebecca Widener (Colin), Colleen Wright, Alex Goss, Matthew Goss, Will Goss, Katie Rhodes (Austin), Michael Walling , Ehrin Smith, Courtney Peterson (Matt); eight great-grandchildren: Madison, Eddie, Anna, Mary, Hayden, Eli, Emmett,
Harper.

The family would like to thank her part-time caregivers --- Sharon, Christine, and Bethany. Also, the family would especially like to thank Mount Pleasant Gardens Alzheimer's Special Care Center and Lutheran Hospice for their excellent loving care and kindness.
