Allen Taylor King, 71, passed away on Tuesday evening, October 2, after a valiant fight with cancer. There will be a visitation on Saturday, October 6, 2018, at Lighthouse Church, 1177 Gregorie Ferry Rd, Mount Pleasant at 3:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at 4:00. In celebration of Allen, dress is "Tommy Bahama Casual". The family will receive friends at 1990 Sandy Pointe Lane, Mount Pleasant directly following the service.
Allen was born on January 29, 1947, in Charleston, SC. He was the son of the late Jennie Allen King and Samuel B. King and brother to Ted King (Teri) of John's Island, Judy Holmes (Ron) of Hanahan, Sam King (Sue) of Aiken and step-sister Abbey Wiggins of Charleston. In high school, Allen met Libba Owen, and in 1967 they married and began a 51-year loving life together in Charleston, raising two children, Allen Taylor "Ty" King, Jr. (Carrie) and Lisa "Shelley" King Mahan (Randy).
Allen was a self-made man and highly successful entrepreneur. His diligence and hard work have enabled his family to have financial security for generations to come. Allen served in the Army Reserves for six years during the Vietnam era. He was a man who loved boating, fishing, hunting, and playing golf with his friends, but most of all, his family. He enjoyed his time in the Bahamas cruising the islands. His greatest pleasure came from being able to share everything he had with others.
He is loved and missed dearly by his wife, siblings, and children; grandchildren Victoria Caitlin Mahan, Mathew Allen Mahan, Allen Taylor King, III (Taylor), Kylie Love King, Alexander Harrison Mahan, Hope Caroline King, and Addison Grace King; sisters-in-law Nancy Lee Martin, of North Charleston, and Annette Cline, of Greenville; numerous nieces and nephews, and many, many friends whom he touched throughout his long life.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Outdoor Dream Foundation (outdoordream.org), which provides critically ill children with any outdoor experience of their dreams.
