Allen L. Gentry

Allen L. Gentry, 92, of Charleston, South Carolina, widower of Murrell Shipman Gentry, entered into eternal rest Monday, December 28, 2015. His Funeral Service will be held Saturday, January 2, 2016, in Pickens View Wesleyan Church, 744 Bethlehem Ridge Road, at 1:00 p.m. Interment, Churchyard. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 30, 2015, from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.

Allen was born June 15, 1923 in Macon, Georgia, son of the late Samuel Pearce Gentry and Rachel Idella Sheriff Gentry. He honorably served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a retired district manager with Nestle. Allen was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church and the Sons of the Confederacy.

He is survived by his daughter, Janet G. Jones and husband, Michael Jones, of Brentwood CA; three sisters, Ann G. Osborne, Hazel G. Welborn, and Pat G. Hart, all of Greenville, SC; a sister-in-law, Eloise Shipment of Hollywood, FL, two grandchildren, Kerry and David; and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Lamar T. Gentry.
