Allan L. Vandall

April 11, 1942 — August 25, 2017

Allan Lee Vandall died peacefully Friday, August 25, 2017 at MUSC from complications following a recent stroke. Allan was born in Braddock, PA to the late Leonard Lee and Cecilia Sudyck Vandall. Allan was an engineering graduate from Pennsylvania State University and a lifelong avid Nittany Lion football fan. He received an MBA from the University of Akron.

Allan started his career as an engineer in Akron, Ohio and progressed within several companies to eventually become the owner of a manufacturing company in Saginaw, Michigan. He retired to Kiawah with his wife Gail in 1997 and became a coach and mentor to many low country entrepreneurs and authored several business books. He was a charter member of the St. John's Island Rotary Club.

Allan was known as a friendly people person who never met a stranger and was always willing to offer his advice and support to anyone he met. "Papa" cherished spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed walking his dogs along the Kiawah bike paths. He was very proud that his children worked together to buy a popular downtown restaurant last year where he became a frequent patron.

Allan is survived by his wife Gail Vaughan Vandall, his daughter Alison Vandall Barker, his son Allan Vaughan Vandall and his three grandchildren - Alexa Vaughan Barker, Grayson Vaughan Vandall and Katherine Elizabeth Vandall. He is also survived by his sisters Beverly and Arleen and his brothers Clyde and Dennis.
