Aline Mason Smith, 95, of Sullivan's Island, South Carolina, daughter of Dr. James Furman Mason and Katherine Stello Mason, widow of Dr. J. Lewis Smith, Jr., entered into eternal rest Friday, April 26, 2019. Her funeral service will be held Saturday, May 4, 2019, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 5 Clifford Street at 2:00 PM. Aline was born April 5, 1924, in Charleston, South Carolina. She was a graduate of Ashley Hall and attended the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, an honorary member of The Garden Club of Charleston and an avid volunteer for many years at the Charleston Symphony Orchestra League's Designer Show Houses.
She is survived by her three sons; J. Lewis (Tripp) Smith III, Furman Mason Smith (Betsy) and David Laurens Smith (Dale), all of the Charleston area. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; Barbara Aline Seaman of Greenville NC, Kathryn Reid Seaman of Covington LA, J. Lewis Smith IV (Mary Beth) of Tampa FL, Jeffrey Thomas Smith (Saeweard), Matthew Mason Smith (Callie), Parker Madison Smith (Breanna), Joshua Morgan Smith and David Laurens Smith Jr. (Keller), all of Mt. Pleasant and Andrew James Carpenter Smith (Kristin) of Montgomery, AL. She is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Kathryn Smith Goertzen of Mandeville, LA.
The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the caring individuals at Somerby of Mount Pleasant and caregivers Beverly Rouse and Mary Brown for their compassionate and loving care of Aline.
