Alice Faye Grantham Streetman

Alice Faye Grantham Streetman, 85, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, October 23, 2024. 

Alice was born June 1, 1939 in Goldsboro, North Carolina, daughter of the late Carl Leon Grantham and the late Lela Eleanor Pate Grantham. Alice was one-of-a-kind. Known for her spunk, independence and fiery personality, she filled every room with warmth and energy. 

In addition to her parents, her sister Eleanor Glynn Grantham Allen, and her brother Carl Ray Grantham, Alice was preceded in death by her loving husband, George Robert Streetman, whose memory she held dear throughout her life. Together, they raised six children, instilling in each of them the values of hard work, compassion and perseverance. After raising her children, Alice followed her dreams of becoming a nurse, returning to school to earn her RN degree. She poured her heart into caring for the elderly, advocating for their well-being as a regional long-term care ombudsman. With her soothing demeanor and vitality, she effortlessly moved through the halls of long-term care facilities giving a voice to the voiceless. 

The last few years, especially the past several months, were challenging as she faced Alzheimer’s with the same tenacity she brought to every part of her life. It’s true what they say about Alzheimer’s being “the long goodbye.” Yet, amidst the pain, there is peace in knowing she is reunited with George Robert Streetman. We take comfort in the image of them dancing together once again, just like they always loved to do.

She is survived by three daughters, Susan René Cook (Jay-deceased) of North Charleston, SC; Alice Faye Kelley (Kevin) of North Charleston, SC; Karen Lynette Nowlin (Therr) of Winter Haven, FL; and three sons, Robert Eugene Streetman of North Charleston, SC; George Dwayne Streetman of Winter Haven, FL; James Anthony Streetman (Cathy) of Mount Pleasant, SC. She is also survived by her brother HT Grantham (Nell) of Kenly, NC. She was the loving grandmother of nineteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. 

Her legacy lives on in the love she shared, the lives she touched and the strength she inspired in those around her. 

A private celebration of life will be held on November 9, 2024. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel. 

In memory of Alice's lifetime of service, her family asks that in lieu of flowers, friends and loved ones honor her legacy by sharing a kind word, lending a helping hand, or contributing to a local eldercare organization such as the South Carolina Alzheimer’s Association.
