Alice was born December 27, 1924 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late Theobald Leopold Cammer and Annie Lottie Toomer Cammer.
She graduated from North Charleston High School. Her beauty earned her a place in the court of the Miss Charleston contest. Alice worked as a clerk at the Charleston Naval Shipyard for a few years before she married and raised a family. Later she was an office clerk at Chicora High School, where she also served as a study hall supervisor. Alice was a member of the former St. Peters-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church, at the Navy Base, which merged with St. Peters Church, West Ashley, now Church of the Good Shepherd. She was a member of The Order of Daughters of the King at her church, a spiritual sisterhood of women dedicated to a life of prayer, service, and evangelism. Her church family was very special to her.
Alice loved spending time with her family, who brought such joy to her life. She loved birds, butterflies and hummingbirds, and could spend hours watching the birdfeeders in her backyard. One of life's joys for Alice was interacting with babies. The very sight of a baby brought a smile to her face. And, she loved angels. Her sweet spirit shone through with a beautiful smile and a gracious "thank" you to those who cared for her. Many considered her to be the epitome of a true southern lady.
She is survived by her loving children, Walter D. Missel, Jr (Miriam) of Summerville, SC, Kathy Missel of North Charleston, SC, and Lisa Missel Wilson (Richard) of Hampton, GA; her seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; her sister, Gloria Cammer Wyndham (Woody) of North Charleston, SC; her brother, Johnnie Cammer (June) of Bonneau, SC; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Walter; her daughter, Daisy "Cissy" Missel Davidson; her sisters, Thelma Cammer Martin and Lottie Cammer Yon; and her brother, Jerome L. Cammer.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Church of the Good Shepherd, 1393 Miles Drive, Charleston, SC 29407.
