Alexander Donathan "Don" Stone Jr., 87, of Isle of Palms, South Carolina passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on January 12, 2017. His Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 14, 2017, at J. HENRY STUHR, MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd., at 4:00 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Don was born to the late Alexander Donathan Stone, Sr. and Virginia Keith Chilton Stone. He was raised in Remington, Virginia, where he stayed until entering The Corps of Cadets at Virginia Tech. He graduated in 1951 with a BS in Electrical Engineering, then he entered the US Air Force and served in the Korean war.
Don met his wife, Nancy, and they were married in Belleville, Illinois, in 1952. Upon completion of his Air Force service, Don started his 20 year career with General Electric, which took he and Nancy and their three children back and forth across the country.
Charleston, South Carolina captured Don and Nancy's hearts. In 1973 Don purchased a small business, which proved to be his spring board into his Real Estate career.
Through Don's ownership of Island Realty since 1976, he became very active in the local, State, and National Associations of Realtors. He also devoted many hours to the Sertoma Club of Charleston.
Don is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nancy; and their children: Alexander "Sandy" Donathan Stone III (Margaret), Melissa Crosby (David), and Virginia Crutchley (Todd); grandchildren: Alexander Donathan Stone IV (Allison), Virginia Caroline Hodges (Justin), Shelby Louise Dillon (Joseph), Robert Chilton Stone (Courtney), David Michael Crosby, Morgan Osbourne Crutchley, and Eric George Stone (Stephanie); and great-grandchildren: Mary Margaret Stone, Alexander Donathan Stone V, Rory E. Dillon, Griffin B.C. Hodges, and Whitman R. Stone.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Chilton Stone and Nathaniel Thomas Stone.
