Albert A. Maniscalco, MD, a physician who spent 29 years as a practicing Medical Internist and Nephrologist on Staten Island, passed on October 31, 2022 in Charleston, South Carolina where he retired in 2003. He was also the owner and director of the Richmond Kidney Center on Staten Island from 1984 to 2003.
He was son of Albert V. Maniscalco, Borough President of Richmond County (1954 to 1965), and Grace Fiorelli Maniscalco.
During his retirement years he remained active at the Medical University of South Carolina where he became a well loved and respected member of the Nephrology Department.
He loved people, with whom he was quick to bond and share stories of life. He was known for his lively sense of humor, his voracious appetite for knowledge, and passion for medicine. He was a born teacher, whether it was explaining a medical issue to a resident, or a golf swing to a beginner. He enjoyed sharing and exchanging knowledge and experience with others. Besides being an accomplished golfer and aspiring artist he also loved sailing his boat, Pharaoh’s Barge, named for his beloved German Shepherd, during summers on the Long Island Sound.
Dr. Maniscalco was a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, New York Medical College, and was a member of the medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha. He did his internship and residency at St. Vincent's Hospital in Manhattan, NY and fellowship in Nephrology at Duke University. He was listed numerous times in New York Magazine as one of the Top Doctors.
Dr. Maniscalco is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Carolee; two sons Albert and Mark, daughter-in-law Deborah, sister Linda Calarco and brother in law Vincent Calarco, grandchildren Matthew and Rachel, and nephews David and Christopher.
