Albert A. Lacour, Jr., passed away on February 3, 2011, at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home in Anderson, SC. The relatives and friends of Albert Lacour, Jr. are invited to attend his Memorial Service on Saturday, February 12, 2011 in J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL at 2:30 p.m. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens with full military honors. The family will receive friends at Stuhr's Mount Pleasant Chapel one hour prior to the service. Mr. Lacour was born April 24, 1927 in Atlanta, Georgia, son of the late Albert A. Lacour and Florance Obear Lacour. He attended Atlanta Public Schools and was graduated from the University of Georgia, Atlanta Division, with a degree in Business Administration. He served in the US Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict, after which he worked in the field of Data Processing, beginning when computers were in their infancy. Mr. Lacour originated and managed the Data Processing Department of Baptist College of Charleston, now known as Charleston Southern University. He retired in 1992 from the Charleston Naval Shipyard, following nine years as Security Officer. Mr. Lacour was a member of Joseph C. Greenfield Masonic Lodge in Atlanta, Zamora Shrine Temple in Birmingham. AL, Past President of DPMA Professional Organization, Low Country Fliers Model Airplane Club, and was active in Boy Scouts of America for many years as counselor to Eagle Scout aspirants, Neighborhood Commisioner, and achieved the rank of Wood Badge. He enjoyed wood working, building many beautiful and serviceable pieces of furniture thoughout the years. He was known and loved for his quick sense of humor and his willingness to lend a hand to those in need of his time or talents. Mr. Lacour was an Episcopalian. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lona Cawley Lacour, two sons, Albert A. Lacour, III, Arthur Christopher Lacour, one daughter, Lona Ann Lacour, from the Charleston area, a brother, Lt. Colonel (USA, retired) George A. Lacour, of Moorpark, CA, one sister, Pollie L. Singletary, of Monck's Corner, SC, five grandsons, A.A. Lacour, IV, Shay D. Lacour, Arthur C. Lacour, Jr., Nicholas A. Lacour, William J. Schmitt of North Charleston, SC, one step grandson, Johnathan Scoggan, three step granddaughters, Emma Connor, Amber Connor, and Stacey Scoggan, all of the Charleston area. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jeanne Rene Lacour.
