Albert Sidney Altman, 81, died December 30, 2017. His Memorial Service will be held Friday, January 5, 2018 in the J. Henry Stuhr., Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel, at 2:00 pm, Rev. Narcie Jeter officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral chapel Friday from 1:00 pm until time of the service. Burial will be private.
He was born June 15, 1936 in Georgetown County, one of 11 children born to the late John Gordon Altman and Annie Carraway Altman. He was raised in Pawley's Island and had a life long love for the beach,.
Mr. Altman was employed by Bayer Corporation at Bushy Park as a Maintenance Supervisor for 28 years, retiring in 1997. He was a graduate of Winyah High School, Charlotte Business School and Conway Technical College. He served 2 years active duty and 4 years reserve duty in the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of the Point Hope United Methodist Church. He was a past member of the Pawleys Island Masonic Lodge, the Shrine Club of Charleston, the East Cooper Outboard Motor Club, the Charleston Rifle Club and the Square and Level Club.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Boroughs Altman; one step-daughter, Michelle Gerard Shuler and her husband Bryan of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and one step-son, William F. Gerard III of Severna Park, MD; grandchildren, Abby Shuler, Becca Shuler, Madison Gerard, and Gavin Gerard; 2 sisters, Josephine Heath of Midlothian, Texas, and Lorena (Tootsie) Watkins of Pawleys Island, SC; one brother, John Lawrence Altman of Georgetown, SC; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by 6 brothers, Reggie Altman, Claude Altman, and Mackie Altman, Sr., all of Pawleys Island, Theodore Altman of St. Cloud, FL, Harry Altman of Slidell, LA, and Tommy Altman of Georgetown, SC; and one sister, Edline Hucks of Manning, SC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Point Hope United Methodist Church, 3404 Turgot Lane, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29466.
