Alan Franklin Wright, 84, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Barbara Covar Wright died Wednesday, January 1, 2014. The relatives and friends of Alan Wright are invited to attend his memorial service on Friday, January 3, 2014 at St. Andrew's Church of Mount Pleasant, 440 Whilden Street at 3:00 pm. Alan was born June 7, 1929 in Albany, New York, son of the late James Howard Wright and the late Agnes Marjorie Salter Wright. He was a graduate of Dartmouth College Thayer School of Engineering, receiving his Master's Degree. He worked for 38 years with E.I. DuPont at various locations including the Savannah River Plant, Camden, SC plant, and he retired from the Martinsville, Virginia plant. Alan was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Throughout his adult life he was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church in Martinsville, VA and St. Andrew's Church in Mt. Pleasant, serving on the vestry and teaching Sunday School. His family and church came first in his life and he had a gentle way about him with a quick wit that everyone enjoyed. He enjoyed singing in the choir at Christ Church in Martinsville, VA and St. Andrew's Church of Mt. Pleasant. He also enjoyed golf, photography, tennis and volunteering for the Mended Hearts program at Roper Hospital. Alan was a member of the Lions Club of Martinsville, VA and the Exchange Club of Mount Pleasant.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara C. Wright of Mount Pleasant, SC; his three daughters, Allyn Calaman and her fiance, John Sukovich, Sally Trask and her husband Joseph, and Phyllis Rogerson and her husband, Robert; one son, Russell Wright and his wife, Patty; seven grandchildren, James Scott Calaman and his wife Melissa, Benjamin M. Wright and his wife, Kelli, William M. Wright, Rebecca Trask Haynes and her husband, William, Joseph Lake Trask, Jr., Ellye H. Rogerson and Anna T. Rogerson; two great grandchildren and four nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Roger H. Wright and his wife, Priscilla Pratt Wright.
