Alan Coleman, born October 4, 1946 of Charleston, South Carolina, widower of Eve Bindursky Coleman, passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2026 from metastatic melanoma.

Alan was a third generation Charlestonian, the son of the late Dr. Ralph Coleman and Florence Coleman Horowitz. He graduated from St. Andrew's High School and received a Bachelor of Science from the University of South Carolina. In July 1969 he married Eve, whom he fell in love with at the former Camp Belle Aire as a teenager. They began married life in Memphis, Tennessee before they moved together to Charleston. Alan excelled at using his management and finance abilities in several jobs throughout his career but especially loved being self-employed for the majority of his adult life.

He was bountifully fulfilled in his role as dad to his only child, Jennifer Coleman (Jonathan Leit), as uncle to his nieces and many nephews (Bea Davis, Rabbi Rachel Nussbaum, Daniel, Nathan, Joseph and Jacob Nussbaum), and later as Pop to his two granddaughters (Evangeline and Vivienne). He and his younger sister, Neda Nussbaum (Alan), shared an especially close, lifelong bond.

Alan was known as a high school basketball star and for his generosity and loyalty. He is predeceased by his sister, Harriett Brown, and brother, Marvin Coleman.

The graveside service will be held in Emanu-El Cemetery at 3pm on Tuesday, January 27, followed by a meal of condolence at Synagogue Emanu-El and a 5:30pm minyan.

Memorial contributions may be made to Synagogue Emanu-El, Rabbi's Discretionary Fund, 5 Windsor Drive, Charleston, SC 29405 or Pet Helpers Adoption Center, 1445 Folly Road, Charleston, SC 29412.
