Adele F. Shahid, 89, of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, January 17, 2021. Her private graveside service for immediate family will be held Thursday, January 21, 2021 in St. Lawrence Cemetery, Charleston, South Carolina at 2:00 pm. The holy rosary service will be conducted Wednesday, January 20, 2021 where it will be livestreamed at https://youtu.be/ekNcdIZYNZQ at 4:30 p.m. Arrangements by J. Adele was born April 17, 1931 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late Asaid F. Shahid and Fadwa Adry Shahid. She was a graduate of Bishop England High School and Misericordia College. Adele was a former Charleston County School Teacher and then worked in the family business, Shahid's Department Store, for thirty years before retiring in 1998. Adele then began volunteering at St. Francis Hospital Cancer Registry Office for the next ten years and accumulated over 1,000 hours of service.
Adele believed education was important and established a scholarship in her name at Misericordia College and also established a scholarship at Bishop England High School in her parents' honor. She was a generous supporter of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy, the Special Olympics and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Adele is survived fourteen nieces: St. Clair (Shahid) Michel, Jean (Shahid) Taylor, Angela (Shahid) Young, Joanne (Shahid) Kirkland, Diane (Shahid) Mubarak, Renee (Moluf) Lowry, Linda (Moluf) York, Susan (Moluf) McDaniel, Karen (Joseph) Theos, Ellen (Joseph) Cherof, Pauline (Joseph) Frampton, Margaret (Joseph) Koutroulakis, Mary (Joseph) Hayes and Libby (Joseph) Wullner; and six nephews: Clarence J. Shahid, Jr., Robert Shahid, A. Peter Shahid, Jr., George Anthony Moluf, Jr., Paul Joseph, Jr. and Michael Joseph. Adele is survived by many great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews along with many friends.
She was predeceased in death by her brothers: Clarence Shahid (Janie) and Albert Shahid (Julia); and her sisters: Olga Shahid Moluf (George), Mary Shahid, and Margaret Shahid Joseph (Paul).
