Addolorata "Dolores" Caccavale Barbaruolo

Addolorata "Dolores" Caccavale Barbaruolo, 92, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, wife of Gaetano J. Barbaruolo entered into eternal rest Thursday, January 9, 2020. Her family will receive friends Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will be held in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, 1308 Mathis Ferry Road.

Born May 20, 1927 in Naples, Italy, Dolores was the youngest of 13 children of the late Ovidio Caccavale and the late Rosa Lupo Caccavale. Dolores' family history was very interesting. Her parents were married on Ellis Island on June 8, 1907 on Ellis Island, NYC. They lived in Connecticut, one child was born in Connecticut and three in Rhode Island. Only eight siblings reached adulthood. The first four were raised between Italy and America. The older four had American accents and the younger four Italian. She had a brother in the Italian Navy and a brother in the US Navy. Dolores and her mother immigrated to the USA in 1948 and settled with older siblings in New Haven, CT. Her family was the center of her life and most important to her. She enjoyed being a longtime member of East Cooper Newcomers Club and for many years she hosted a Newcomers Christmas breakfast. Dolores enjoyed gardening and flowers especially roses, and was a TOPs member where she became a KOPs member. She taught a few classes of Italian as an instructor at Berlitz in Mt. Pleasant. When she lived in New York, she enjoyed her trips to Atlantic City. She celebrated her 25th wedding anniversary with a trip to Italy and France. After the war a sister moved to France, so she had a "French Connection"! She traveled many times over the years to Italy and France.

She will be dearly missed by her husband of 68 years, Gaetano Barbaruolo of Mt. Pleasant, SC; six children: Lorraine De Muccio of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Thomas Barbaruolo (Debbie) of Florida, Perry Barbaruolo (Gerry) of New Jersey, Angelo Barbaruolo of New Jersey, Lisa Alden (Randy) of New Mexico and Carl Barbaruolo (Marcela) of Nevada; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law Joseph P. De Muccio and her siblings.
