Addie was born December 2, 1922 in Ehrhardt, South Carolina, daughter of the late Raleigh Kinard and the late Erline Lubecke Kinard. She was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church.
Addie Smith was a sweet and gentle spirit who shone Jesus' love brightly to all she encountered. She was a wonderful mother to Cecelia and Jim providing a warm and loving home always open to all. She exuded peace, love, joy, hope, faith and patience. She was a great sounding board for any issue causing concern for anyone. She reached out in a way that was inviting and radiated warmth.
Her love for God and her church friends filled every hollow place with substance. She was Jesus' hands and feet on this earth. She smiled often and touched many hearts in her time here. She graduated from the College of Charleston, was active in Franke auxiliary functions, held administrative positions with Women of the ELCA, served on the Salvation Army board, and was active in church circle four and other groups. She served as scribe for most meetings she attended and was especially talented at recording the highlights of trips when she traveled. She was an avid square dancer in her younger days.
Every Christmas, she baked a wonderful assortment of cookies to share with friends. She cooked chicken and dumplings for Sunday lunch so she could add dumplings to accommodate extra guests. She was famous for the greatest macaroni pie, fried chicken and peanut brittle, and canned and froze enough food each summer to last a lifetime.Addie will be missed by all she knew, especially her family. She was a true matriarch and role model for how to live a life full of joy, compassion and hope.
She is survived by her daughter, Cecilia S. Wilkerson of Savannah, GA; her son, James "Jim" Booth Smith, Jr. (Pam) of Charleston; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
