David Maybank Royall, 72, of Charleston, SC passed away peacefully on July 18, 2024 surrounded by his family. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday July 23, 2024, at 2 pm at Grace Church Cathedral in Charleston. A reception will immediately follow the funeral service at the Carolina Yacht Club at 50 East Bay Street in Charleston.
The youngest of five children, he was born November 2, 1951 at Roper Hospital. He attended Porter Military Academy and graduated from Porter-Gaud School in 1970 and The Baptist College at Charleston in 1974. He met his future bride, Posey Bacot Myers, in high school and they married in 1976.
David was predeceased by his parents, Edward Manly Royall, Jr. and Norene Harmon Royall, his sisters Harriet Royall and Ellen Scurry, and his brother Edward M. Royall III.
David is survived by his wife, Posey Myers Royall; his two daughters, Julia Royall and Elizabeth Darby (Stephen); his son Edward Royall (Lucy) and his three grandchildren, Margaret Royall, Liza Darby and David Darby, all of Charleston, SC. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Lawton of Bradenton, FL and countless nieces and nephews.
David was a devoted and adoring husband to Posey, and he loved her with all of his heart. He was an extraordinarily proud father who loved his children unconditionally, and he was their hero. David's greatest joy was taking after his grandfather and becoming "Dadoo" to his three grandchildren for whom he was over the moon.
David worked for Roadway Express after graduating from college, with stops in Augusta, GA, Gastonia, NC and Meridian, MS, before going to work for Omni Services in Culpeper, VA in 1989. In 1996, he returned to Charleston and worked in chemical sales, retiring from Colonial Chemical Solutions in 2018.
David lived every day to serve others and participated in a variety of service projects throughout his life. He was especially passionate about supporting initiatives started by his children. He was a devoted member of Grace Episcopal Church where he ushered and served in various ministries. He sought daily to bring happiness and joy to everyone around him.
David spent the last year of his life at Ashley Gardens Memory Care where he continued to entertain and bring smiles to all. The Royall family owes a debt of gratitude to the caregivers from Ashley Gardens, Fox Rehab, and Crescent Hospice, who loved him and treated him with the utmost respect and care.
